Best Joke I’ve Ever Written

This is a story about the Best Joke I’ve Ever Written.

In Science, the Scientist who makes the least amount of assumptions, wins fastest.

In Business, the Executive who makes least amount of assumptions, wins fastest.

Ditto for Comedy. Ditto? Ditto!

When I come up with a great Joke, I usually LMAO for a long time.

There’s a Celebration, and why not? It’s an amazing joke. No, more than amazing. It’s The Best Joke I’ve Ever Written. I can’t wait for the Open Mic tonight!

But then I start getting ready for the performance of the Best Joke I’ve Ever Written at tonight’s Open Mic. And I start thinking about the Crowd. I wonder how the Crowd is going to react.

Uh Oh.

And all of a sudden, the Best Joke I’ve Ever Written doesn’t seem so funny any more.

And then I get on the subway. And now the joke is gone. Oh, it’s not that I’ve forgotten the Best Joke I’ve Ever Written. I still remember the Best Joke I’ve Ever Written.

But you’re not gonna say that joke on stage. Are you really gonna do that silly-ass act out? Are you crazy?! Do you want to EMBARRASS YOURSELF? You must have been out of your mind for thinking the Best Joke I’ve Ever Written was funny.

And then I get to the open mic. The Crowd is there. They don’t look like the kind of people who are going to like the Best Joke I’ve Ever Written. I wonder what will make them laugh?

And then they call my name. And then I start telling old jokes.

The crowd laughs – kind of. But they don’t laugh like I dreamed they would.

And the Best Joke I’ve Ever Written never sees the dark of an Open Mic.

Assumptions. Assumptions that the joke was the best joke ever makes you suit up for the Open mic.

Doubts. Doubts that the joke is the best joke ever makes you hide it from the Open Mic’s Crowd.

Alas, Practice Makes the Master. So assume little, doubt a lot, but learn to listen, and play chess with The Joker.

The Fifth Agreement is a powerful-ass book.

Our symbols represent reality, but that does not mean they ARE reality.

Who told you that any of what you were taught was absolute truth.

Respect the Joker you’re playing Chess with,

Mike
